    Description

Wonderful, unissued example of the World War II British Turban Cone, as used by Indian infantry regiments serving within the British Empire during World War II. These were used as the base of a turban wrap in a regulation Indian Army uniform. According to the stamp inside, it was manufactured by J. Collet Ltd in 1942, and is a British military size 10 1/2. You can also see the British broad arrow, which tells us that this was officially accepted for use by the British military. I would estimate this as being on the small side.
Kullah' is the Urdu name for a type of dome shaped skull-cap worn by men from various parts of the Indian subcontinent. In the North-West Frontier and the Punjab a kullah is often accompanied by a lungi, a long and narrow piece of cotton cloth that is carefully wrapped around the kullah. One end of the lungi makes the shamla, which is like the crest of a peacock, and the other end forms the tail, which hangs loosely at the back.
