Lavender Jadeite from Turkey, also known as “turkiyenite,” is a highly uncommon stone that has only gotten harder to come by over the years. What many don’t know about this unusual gemstone is that material from this particular locality contains between 40% to 60% jadeite jade (as opposed to the often less valuable nephrite jade), with the remainder a still unknown combination of quartz, orthoclase feldspar, epidote, and other trace minerals.
This particular material was sourced from a miner who only ever has AAA grade material once every few years. I had to scoop up as much as I could afford. AAA grade material is distinguished from AA grade material and lower by its jadeite content: AAA grade tends to be closer to the 60% jadeite mark, whereas AA grade is closer to the 40% mark. Hundreds of pounds of C, B, and A grade material are sorted through just to come up with AA+ grade. Out of that, a specialist will determine what can be deemed AAA(+) grade.
Surprisingly, Turkish jade has a very unique photoluminescence, meaning a stone’s color can actually shift to different shades depending on the light. The science behind it is tricky and would require more than yours truly to be able to explain; included in the last photo slot is an example of the same stones under different artificial lighting conditions. No filters or color correcting techniques were used. In direct natural sunlight, the material seems to almost have a magenta “glow”. In artificial LED white light (such as a phone flashlight), the stones appear to take on a ghostly marbled blue.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out at any time; I’m always happy to help! My material is completely natural, untreated (no dye!), and tumbled right here in Southern California. This particular order will be shipped via USPS First Class. Stay safe, stay healthy, and keep looking forward.
