    Description

Up for bid is a set of three meticulously handcrafted Satsuma Moriage Dragon wares. Moriage refers to the unique decorative style of traditional Japanese pottery in which raised patterns were made with slip or gilt. Dated back to the 17th century, moriage was first created in southern part of Japan known as Satsuma. The Satsuma style involving moriage decoration became popular in the early 20th century for the export market. The set featured here is probably export wares made in the same era, all with the Japan marks underneath. Stunning details of the dragon and humans are seen. No apparent damage, crack or chip.
