    Description

    Pretty sure this is some type of cover for the ear on a leather flying helmet, possibly RAF.  I am not sure of
    the exact application, though.  Very similar to the pre war helmets that used the gosport tubes
    instead of the pads, which date to early thirties through the end of the war.  There is an example
    I saw where the inner snaps can be seen on an early "S. Lewis" Cap that dated to 1930-1934.
    Probably a rare item as I assume most of these were not used and just discarded.
