    Description

    This is an antique Japanese Meiji Era (c. 1890)
    tetsubin
    (iron tea pot) or
    choshi
    . Quite large and heavy, i
    t is made of cast iron and has a raised hail pellet design around the middle (see pictures).
    The raised hail pellet design helped to retain heat for longer periods after removed from the fire.
    The iron lid has a pine cone finial
    on the top (see picture 4). The handle has a twist design (see picture 5).
    It is made of very thick iron to hold the heat longer.  It has a raised signature,
    Sangishi Doh
    (store) (see picture 6).
    The pot is made of very thick iron and weighs 3 lbs 8 oz.
    It measures 6 1/2" (17 cm) in diameter
    not including the handle or spout by  4" tall (10 cm) and 8" tall with the handle (20 cm)  and holds about one quart of liquid.
    Having been in storage for over 130 years, with exception of sign of past use,
